Panorama Elafonisos

beaches

Elafonisos has a great holiday experience thanks to its magnificent sandy beaches with turquoise waters. Most famous of all, the twin Frangos – Sarakiniko (Simos) in the south side of the island.

Simos (Frangos)

The beaches of Frangos and Sarakiniko, the end of the homonymous neighboring bays, better known as Small and Big Simos respectively. Impressive unprecedented for Greece, long sandy beaches, almost white in sand and water colors. The beach in August is filled with thousands of clusters of white lilies of the sea, which are good not to cut them in order to throw seed to continue their journey in time.

Sarikiniko

Sarakiniko is the long beach on the magnificent small and large beach in the south of Elafonisos with southwest orientation. It has a coastline of 1,500 meters and the sand reaches 320 meters inside Elafonisos. Amazing emerald sea colors and fine sand in golden-white color, unique sand dunes in Greece that reach the amazing height of 10 meters. Unique flora place with sea lilies and sea-cedrus trees, grow there, as well as in the other sandy beaches of Elafonisos.

Kato Nisi

The beautiful organized beach of the settlement island of Panagia, in the western part of the island. Sand and dunes, as in Simos, crystal clear, light blue waters. The 1,200-meter long beach is protected by numerous islets that surround it from the sea side while the interior of  the island is protected by a wall of cedar. Flowers of Semper Viva and beautiful plants abound in spring as well as in June. Here the bottom plays with colors and underwater flora. Rich fishing spot with a wide variety of fish.

Pavlopetri

The beautiful beach of Pavlopetri, in Punta, opposite the homonymous islet and behind Stroggili lagoon. Impressive dunes and shallow transparent waters that cover a sunken well-preserved archaic state. Dive to admire. Between the islet of Pavlopetri and the homonymous beach lies the oldest sunken city that has been discovered, Pavlo Petri of the Bronze Age.

Kontogoni

The main beach in the northwest side of Elafonisos village. Golden sandy beach 400 meters long, which part is covered by shops tables. The easy choice for a quick dive in the early morning or late afternoon.

Kalogeras

Continuation of Kontogoni beach, west of the settlement, extends after Kalogirou cape. Not suitable for swimming because the bottom has cobbles in contrast to the beautiful and sandy shallow waters to the east of the cave. Rich dunes and huge unique “sea-cedrus” trees.

Megalo Tigani

Small beach in the village, on the eastern side. In the bottom, it hosts a number of harmonic holes from the trunks of fossilized trees initially dumped at the sea in the earthquake of 375 AD and were subsequently eroded by the sea, creating hundreds of chambers.

Lefki

Beach in the homonymous bay on the west side of the island. The only shelter in the South – Southwest winds. Perhaps the best beach on the island, though smaller and less known than Simos and the Islands of Panagia. Water color is impressive, white, and ideal due to its location when the large beaches catch the southern and western winds. In recent years many have been enchanted by the special colors of Lefki and have turned their backs to the vastness of Simos. At the same time, the homonymous bay is a rich fishing place full of rare gorgeous and brilliant fish “katsoula”.

Agliftis

The only pebbled beach on the island. It is probably the most unknown beach on the island. Desolate, lonely and distant with the only companion of the seagulls and the chapel of Saint Patapios. Well hidden behind the islet of Agliftis at the westernmost point of Elafonisos. Small beach that you can hardly reach either by boat (attention has shallow waters) or after a difficult and arduous hiking from the settlement of Islands of Panagia (there is no path).

Pounta

Almost all the coastal area from Pounta to Neapolis (about 7 km) is a huge and rich sandy beach. Here, its first part in Punta. Best choice, to walk a few meters on the thick sand to Pavlopetri. In recent years, Akra Punta moved tens of meters internally, resulting in a great reduction of the length of the beach.

Chamokelo

Sandy beach of Elafonisos in the opposite mainland coast. The beach extends from the area of Pounda to Neapolis. On the east side of Pounta, behind Stroggili lagoon, starts the beautiful lonely sandy beach of Chamokelo. An oasis of sand dunes, particular vegetation and rare birds located between Lake Stroggili and as a natural continuation of the beach of Pavlopetri to the north and south of Maggano beach. Especially quiet beach, since its approach requires the lake cycle. Beautiful places with small dunes look like a magical line as it is south of the sea and north of the lake.

Maggano

Sandy beach of Elafonisos in the opposite mainland coast. A thin strip of coastline length of 1,700m and a width of only 40m full of sand dunes and rare biodiversity located between Lake Stroggili and the sea. Along with Lake Stroggili are the northernmost part of the mainland of Elafonisos. It is located “downstream” of the village of Agios Georgios of the Municipality of Monemvasia. Especially quiet beach, since its approach requires the lake cycle. Beautiful places with small dunes look like a magical line as it is south of the sea and north of the lake.
